She is not your typical mom

"She is not your typical mom," A phrase I often hear but genuinely hate. Society has conditioned us to have this image of how a mom should look, how she is to act, even how she is to raise her children. With all the advancements we made as humans, one would think we would realize as a society, there is no one way to be a mom or parent at that.

Becoming a mom often changes a woman. For me, it changed me for the better, but it didn't alter ME, if that makes sense. Often women lose themselves into the mom role; I am not saying this is a bad thing because, for some, it truly makes them happy to be a mom, and that fulfills them. I was raised by a mom that loved my brothers and me tremendously. As a child, I watched my mom do things that made her happy, and she didn't allow others' judgment to stop her. My mom dressed how she wanted, she made her mistakes in life, but she was a damn good mother. I'm glad I saw this as a child because I am happy to say that I am the same when it comes to being a mom. I am a mom, but first, I am Lissette, and I don't have to lose myself to be a great parent. Are there moments that I bite off more than I can chew, yup, absolutely, but that doesn't make me a bad parent; it makes me human.

We as mothers need to realize that we are all on the same playing field; when did it become a competition? I don't care if you breastfeed, bottlefeed, feed your kids organic, spoil your child, co-sleep, send your kid to private school, and the list can go on. I honestly don't care how parents raise their child unless I see someone being abusive or neglectful, but you will not get an ounce of judgment from me. It frustrates me to see women attack other moms for dressing a certain way, and the best is when I hear "Dress like a mom" like really, what is that?! My Favorite is, "She is not your typical mom." The last time I checked, being a mom is anything but typical. Being a mom is being a superhero every damn day. At any given point, we have to be at multiple places simultaneously doing multiple tasks without flinching. I refuse to lose myself because I am a mom, and neither should you.

If you are reading this, know I do not have all my shit together, I truly have my moments, but I check myself a lot. I invite you guys into my world on social media every day, and I like to think I give you a variety of moments of my mom's life. I love to dress pretty, but a girl loves her sweats as well. Once again, what you wear doesn't define you as a mom. I want you to repeat the following line I am about to write when you feel like you are losing yourself;

IMG_4904.JPG

I AM A MOM, BUT FIRST I AM (YOUR NAME). I WILL LOVE MY CHILD, BUT FIRST I NEED TO LOVE ME. I WILL SHOW MY CHILD WHAT SELF LOVE IS BY LOVING ME AND THAT IS NOT BEING SELFISH THAT IS BEING MENTALLY HEALTHY. I AM A BADASS AND FAR FROM TYPICAL.

I hope this can give you the strength to know that you got this and dont let others opinions get into your head about how you should be as a mom.

Peace & Love
